Lake Léman shores

Short trip to the shores of Leman Lake.

Lake Léman shores

After 5 hours by car to go to Haute-Savoie to see my brother. Here I am in Thonon-les-bains for a week.

At the shores of the Leman Lake close to Switzerland, you can appreciate a beautiful scenery with mountains all around the lake.

Just arrived at our AirBnB, the "Lake House" a cozy house at just 100m from the Leman lake. Top! I just had time to unpack & capture the first sunset of the trip with my new camera.

Day 2 :

We set course to visit Yvoire the medieval city. After visiting the small city, we're taking a dip in the Lake at Nernier.

Day 3 :

During the morning we visited the Saint-Jean-D'Aulps Abbey which date from the 13th century.

Montriond Lake

After that a quick stop at Montriond Lake, the atmosphere is so peaceful there, really a quiet place. We decided to go around & make it to the Cascade d'Ardent. A 1h30 hike awaits you around the lake & into the woods to the Cascade. The clouds embracing the mountains around the lake really made this hike out of time.

Day 4 :

Today is the day for a climbing session with my brother as instructor. We're going to a nice spot near Bellevaux, this place is accessible even for beginners.

After that, going back to Thonon to appreciate a nice sunset at the lake.

Never get tired of those sunsets !

Day 5 :

9 AM, after a quick 30 min by car from the house, and we're set to climb la Dent d'Oche (2222m).

This hike starts with a pretty steep climb to the Chalet d'Oche. After 40 min you arrive at the Chalet d'Oche in high mountains pastures. The cowbells ringing there is a sweet melody to slow down your pulse & catch your breath.

In the second part of the ascent you can see the Mont Blanc looking north. The ascent to refuge is pretty vertical, chains are there to help you climb.

The refuge is there, now the last ascent to the top. Careful when climbing, assure your steps. Up there, the view is breathtaking  with the Lake on the south & the Chablais massif on the north.

Southern view on the Leman

During the descent, clouds were rising from the southern part & with the sun in our back. This allowed us to witness a Brocken spectre which is more impressive in real life, I'd admit than in photos.

The descent is fairly easy, continue after the top of la Dent d'Oche and you will arrive at le Chalet d'Oche.

Day 7-8 :

A small Swiss escapade to Montreux, where you can enjoy steamboats making round trip between the French & the Swiss parts.
